‘Sherdil’ is headed to the UK, USA and Canada, courtesy of Zashko Films

Sherdil has been a true box office winner, through and through. It had a spectacular first week in terms of numbers (we are talking about over 6 crores here) and the film is currently nearing 9 crores, with its total collections in Pakistan. However, fortunately, the story doesn’t end here. Sherdil is all set to release in the UK, USA, and Canada, courtesy of Zashko films. The film will be releasing in the aforementioned countries on the 12th of April.

However, before we delve deeper into how the international release could impact the film and everyone involved, let’s first talk about the film itself.

What Sherdil is about

Sherdil revolves around an aspiring fighter pilot who is born to fly, against his father’s wishes, and soon lands at the PAF Academy. There, Haris (played by Mikaal Zulfiqar), finds a jolly but a “Phattu” sikh, a “pendu” Punjabi and “player Isloo boy” as his gang members; the manifestations of almost every kind of cadet that you find at the academy.

The writer (and the producer) pleasantly excels with dialogues and screenplay in the first half,  because of his own military background that ensured some authentic academy and air force life sequences.

Moreover, the film’s cinematography is impressive and ensures a visual treat. As for the lead actors, Mikaal and Armeena look rather remarkable on screen together. Mikaal, in particular, has a silver screen presence that we weren’t really aware of, before.

As for Armeena, her presence on screen isn’t confined to her beauty, the actress has given an international hit before as well, on account of her talent. Her film Janaan that collected over 30 crores worldwide was released in a number of countries including the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, etc. Janaan’s success was a living testimony to the fact that Armeena is loved not only in Pakistan but literally all over the world.

Having said that, the film did a rather stupendous business in the twin cities; Rawalpindi and Islamabad which is a not-so-subtle manifestation of the fact that it was not just any family entertainer, it was a film laced with patriotism that definitely struck a chord with its target audience. Fortunately, for the Pakistanis living abroad, the film will be hitting their silver screens in about 3 days, all thanks to Zashko Films, as we mentioned earlier.

A little something about Zashko Films

We are hoping that y’all remember the 2018 romantic comedy film Na Band Na Baraati that starred Mikaal Zulfiqar, Anzheilka Tahir, Nayab Khan, Komal Farooqi, Ali Kazmi, Atiqa Odho and the newcomer Shayan Khan. The film was a fun ride, interspersed with romance and comedy.

Moving on, get this; one of the lead actors from the same  – Shayan Khan – is the man behind Zaskho films (small world, right?) and looks like his relationship with Mikaal Zulfiqar is about to go a notch up for the former is the distributor for Sherdil in the US, USA, and Canada.

The film is getting its international release in 3 days so we are going to keep our fingers crossed and eyes fixated on the box office.

Upcoming film ‘Junoon-e-Ishq’ promises a heavy dose of old school Lollywood

Loud characters uttering even louder dialogues, voluptuous ladies sporting flashy dresses and gaudy makeups, the good guys fighting the ultimate baddies; all this peppered with some jhakkas dance moves choreographed by the dance maestro of the 90s, Pappu Samrat, with a heavy dose of clichés. If all or some of it intrigues you, the upcoming film Junoon-e-Ishq is something you should be looking out for.

The film’s trailer was recently shared and although it has gotten rather negative reviews on social media, it is imperative to note that the film is aimed at a niche. Junoon-e-Ishq appears to be a basic low budget affair, employing the cast and crew from the Lahore based film industry that aims to foray into Urdu cinema and eventually into today’s mainstream cinema. It is directed by Naseem Haider Shah.

A rather heavy dose of all things old school Lollywood

For the fans of the new-age cinema, this film is basically your introduction to how the Lahore based cinema (most of it) used to be in the 90s.

From the trailer and the crew behind the project, it seems rather obvious that it is your typical 12 masala flick which follows the template of a basic mass entertainer of yester year’s cinema

It stars Adnan Khan, a rather familiar face of the local cinema; who starred in Saima Noor’s Salute and debuted in a hit Punjabi flick called Mohabbatan Sachiyan opposite the Paris Hilton of Pakistan – Miss Veena Malik. The acclaimed actor Amir Qureshi (7DMI, and the recently released Project Ghazi) is playing the main antagonist while newcomer Mahi Khan is playing the love interest of the leading men.

Although the mainstream cine-goers will definitely not be interested in what the film is offering, its dialogues, fight sequences, music, and pretty much everything, however, seem to aim at entertaining a niche audience and honestly, we don’t think there is anything wrong with that. The film also features a track from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and maybe that’s something that the mainstream cine-goers can find relatable.

Junoon-e-Ishq is releasing in cinemas nationwide this Friday, on the 12th of April. Catch the film in your nearest (selected) cinemas if you want a dose of the now forgotten 90s ka Lollywood.

“Extremely grateful to Allah,” says Feroze Khan on his upcoming fatherhood

Feroze Khan is a phenomenal actor, no questions asked. With four television hits in just the span of one year, an LSA 2019 nomination for his role in Khaani and an upcoming film Tich Button, this guy is going places. Yesterday, in discussion with Something Haute, Feroze was seen giving us an insight into his personal life and trying to be as secretive about his upcoming film as possible. Let’s see what the star had to say:

The prospect of fatherhood

Feroze and his wife, Alizey just had their first wedding anniversary, last month. Now the young couple is expecting their first child and Feroze is thrilled.

While the heartthrob was once anxious on the prospect, now he is ready. He spoke at great length about his relationship with his wife and how that has resulted in him evolving. He plans on taking a break in the coming months to spend more time with his family, especially his child. It is still not confirmed if it’s a girl or a boy.

All praise to Allah

During the interview, the actor repeatedly expressed his love and praise for Allah. He acknowledged that he tries to be as close to him as he can. Feroze also met Maulana Tariq Jameel a while ago and revealed that he has had a major influence on him.

“…its not something that can drive me forever,” said Feroze when asked whether he might just drop acting forever one day. Well, we sure hope he doesn’t anytime soon

On ongoing and upcoming projects

“I’ve wrapped 70% of my part,” revealed Feroze about the shooting for his upcoming film Tich Button that also stars Farhan Saeed, Iman Ali and Sonya Hussain. While he was super secretive when asked about the pairings between actors, he did say that it is going to be a fun ride.

The actor also chose to keep his lips sealed when asked about the fate of the characters from Dil Kiya Karay. We just hope Saadi doesn’t die.

The actor also said that he plans on producing his own projects one day. But for now, he just wishes to take a break to be with his family. We get it Feroze, it will definitely be a well-deserved break. We here at Galaxy Lollywood send all our well-wishes and prayers for the upcoming member of your family and wish you the best of luck for your future projects.

Films this Friday (April 12, 2019): Three films for you this weekend

It is an open truth that our cinema industry is in need of immediate help. The new local releases that have come out these past few weeks have acted as drips instead of fresh oxygen. Captain Marvel & Shazam, however, have brought some respite to the cinemas but this week’s releases; Dumbo, Hellboy & Junoon-e-Ishq, it seems, will bring no effective joy to the box office. Captain Marvel, being the final follow up to the Avengers: Endgame, will bring in the most footfalls or so we predict. Let’s try and see how the three films releasing this Friday will fare:

Hellboy

Hellboy is a reboot of the 2004 Hellboy movies but this time around, it is pitching itself as more of a horror superhero movie with the R-rated rating being its trump card. This year has been good to horror flicks and superhero movies, with both doing well, so Hellboy will be an interesting case to see.

GL Says: Hellboy is more of a supporting film to bigger films, especially in our market. Our local audiences normally come out to watch popular titles only while smaller ones go unnoticed. Hellboy is a non-starter and, seems like, will not do much in terms of numbers at our local box office. Moreover, we predict that even if it has good content, it will have a very minor effect on its overall performance, as per our audiences’ track record.

Dumbo

Dumbo is a live-action adaption of the 1941 movie of the same name; a film we believe many of you have seen. The film is actually a delayed release, in Pakistan, and seems like the said delay will affect its numbers badly. As for its performance worldwide, the film fell short of expectations. It did not open to many good reviews which spoils its chances even more.

GL Says: Dumbo will not find much audience in the cinemas here as the title is very much familiar in the Asian markets. Secondly, the film has struggled wherever it has been released in the world. The film will need a solid and a long run to get good collections and this seems highly unlikely at this moment.

Junoon-e-Ishq

Junnon-e-Ishq, from its promos, seems like a film which will not only prove to be not just a drip for our cinemas but also a bacteria that drives people away. Movies in today’s world are being made at such a gigantic scale and with the utmost quality, while we are still stuck with old school Lollywood that no one probably doesn’t even want to see anymore.

GL Says: If the cinema going audience has to pay the same amount of money for Junoon-e-Ishq ticket as they have to for Avengers: Endgame releasing in 2 weeks, they would rather watch Avengers twice. Just saying!

For now, Caiptan Marvel seems to be the film for the weekend and hopefully, cinemas will witness some good footfalls in the weeks to come. Fingers crossed!

Does Agha Ali’s upcoming single ‘Main Haara’ allude to his breakup with Sarah Khan?

Ever since they first appeared together in the drama Tumhare Hain, Aagha Ali and Sarah Khan became the talk of the town and infinitely charmed the audience with the beautiful chemistry they shared. In February this year, however, the two parted ways that came as a shock to their fans and well-wishers.

Some background on the relationship and the subsequent break-up

During an interview on the show Chai Toast Aur Host, Aagha was asked about the current status of his very public relationship with Sarah Khan and how he felt about the fans trying to intrude in his private life.

Aagha replied that his fans had loved and supported his relationship with Sarah and he feels like he owes it to them to announce the breakup publically.

Without divulging into explicit details, Aagha cited the reason behind the break up to being “wanting different things from life.” He talked about how the breakup had been hard for him personally and that he couldn’t work for months after it. But eventually, he had to move on with his life. He said that he and Sarah are fine with each other and that he immensely respects Sarah as a person.

Main Haara – Agha’s upcoming single

Very recently (say some 5 days back) Agha Ali released the teaser for his upcoming breakup song titled Main Haara. The song has gathered over 20 thousand views on Agha’s official YouTube.

If we delve a little deeper into the teaser, the actor/singer can be seen throwing a box containing letters, a teddy bear and picture of a girl that according to a huge number of fans, has an uncanny resemblance with Sarah Khan. Some even called him out on it. Agha, however, took to Instagram (the video can be found on one of his biggest fan pages) to explain that the picture is of no Pakistani actress whatsoever.

Instagram Photo

Moreover, while talking to Images, Agha had the following to say:

“It’s for anyone who has been in love and has had their heart broken. I have. And I could relate to the song. I’m sure the world will too,” he said.

While we are not sure if Agha is alluding to his break-up with Sarah Khan through his upcoming single, we are just hoping that the song proves to be a healthy creative outlet for him, given everything he has been through.

Mein Haara has been shot in Karachi in Balochistan while the music is given by Qasim Azhar. Although we do not have a confirmed release date yet, the full single will be coming out anytime soon.

The ensemble cast shines bright in the teaser of Wrong No.2!

Yasir Nawaz’s directorial debut Wrong No. was the surprise hit of 2015. The film won both the critics and audiences over with its comedy and established Yasir as one of the main players in the new age of cinema. Then came Mehrunisa V Lub U in 2018 which took forward the Yasir Nawaz brand of comedy, although it had a social theme at its core. Now with Wrong No.2, Yasir is going back to his roots and given the first teaser, the film seems impressive.

The one and half minute teaser which doesn’t spill many beans about the story, however, does show that Wrong No.2 is following a Pashtun Family with a patriarch (played by Javed Sheikh) and joining him is an ensemble cast of brilliant actors like Mehmood Aslam, Sana Fakhar,  Fareeha Jabeen, Shehnaz Pervaiz, Danish Nawaz and more.

In an interview with Galaxy Lollywood, Hassan Zia had revealed that the film was less about the two main stars Sami Khan-Neelam Muneer and more of an ensemble comedy and giving by the first teaser this seems to be the case.

The Basic Template

It seems that Yasir has kept the fun elements from the successful recipe of his debut Wrong No.2 intact this time. He uses some rib-tickling punchlines, well written and interesting supporting characters, well choreographed songs and beautiful locations with catchy tunes. All that in a “comedy of errors” story that takes the viewer on a travel spree from one place to another. While the basic template may be followed, the film does have a freshness to it as the setting has changed.

What’s Fresh

This time Wrong No.2 is following a Pashtun family and its adventures. The locations change from the dusty streets of Karachi to the historic buildings of interior Sindh and its lush green fields, showing that the film’s canvas is expansive and eye-catching. Another interesting aspect is Neelam Muneer’s character. The lady looks beautiful and there is nothing sexier than her, especially when she’s speaking pashto.

Mehmood Aslam’s is another Pashtun character as Javed Sheikh’s aide and he looks nothing short of adorable. You could also see Sana Fakhar and Yasir Nawaz for a couple of glimpses here and there but it is Fareeha Jabeen and Shehnaz Pervaiz who steal the show with their funny act.  We however terribly missed Sami Khan’s dialogues. He’s there with just one line and is shown in a few songs here and there. Hope to see more of him in the trailer.

In a nutshell, the fun-filled teaser has left us wanting more and if everything goes well with regard to the trailer and its growing buzz, Wrong No.2 will surely be the top choices for cinegoers when it hits the screens this Eid ul Fitr.

“There is a big dance number in the pipeline for Superstar” – Momina Duraid

Being inarguably one of the biggest stars of the country, everything Mahira Khan touches gains the media’s attention. With her busy shooting for her upcoming movie, titled Superstar, which co-stars Bilal Ashraf and is being directed by Ehteshamudin, there are many eyes keenly observing the development of the project. And the latest news about the movie that has appeared in the media says the film will have a dance number featuring the dancing star from across the border – Nora Fatehi.

Considering the on-going tensions between the two countries, this is certainly big news. Nora has featured in music videos for many hit songs and her appearance in a Pakistani film is bound to gain major attention. For instance, it immediately got our attention and we reached out to Momina Duraid, producer of Superstar, to find out the truth to this news.

The producer refutes the claims.

When we asked Momina to shed light on the details of this dance number, she outright refuted any such news that claims that the song number will be featuring any international face.

“There is a big song number in pipeline for Superstar, however, there is no truth to the news that it will feature anyone from across the border. We have not signed on any actress for the song as of yet. The process of shortlisting and finalizing the actress to feature in the song is still underway. All of the actresses that we are considering are Pakistani. We have not reached out to anyone else.”

Momina added that they are still planning for the song and will begin shooting for it shortly. The song number for Superstar will be shot on a grand scale and would be picturized on the film’s lead actor, Bilal Ashraf. Bilal, who plays the role of an actor in the film, will be seen shaking a leg with the not-yet-finalized Pakistani actress in the song.

Well, considering HumTV, who is responsible of producing and distributing the film, has a penchant of using music produced in India in its award shows, it didn’t seem completely out of character for them to rope in an Indian face to feature in their big movie’s big dance number. But this confirmation has put those speculations to rest.

However, it does give rise to more speculations. Who could this Pakistani actress be that could potentially feature in this grand song number? Personally, we’d love to see Humaima Malik take the stage for it. But that’s just us. Comment below who you’d like to see opposite Bilal Ashraf for this grand song. Until then, watch this space for more news and developments.

Box Office: All eyes on ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as slow business continues

$
0
0

The lackluster spell of movies at cinemas continued for the past week too. The latest releases Sherdil and Laal Kabootar though showed good hold at the box office. Captain Marvel maintained its good run but the 4 weeks late release hampered its box office potential to a major extent. All eyes are on Avengers: Endgame now, cause no big release in between has dampened up the box office.

Sherdil

The 4th weekend of the film managed to earn 80 lacs which is a good result considering the release of DC Shazam and Captain Marvel. The film in total has managed 11.23 crores, which is an excellent result for this film. Sherdil has won over the audience, specially the masses, as the business has been excellent in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The film seems like it would do well until the release of Avengers: Endgame and can manage up to 13-14 crores.

The complete breakdown is as follows:

Week 1: 6.05 Crores

Week 2: 2.65 Crores (approx)

Third Weekend: 80 lacs (approx)

Fourth Weekend: 80 lacs (approx)

Total: 11.23 crores

Laal Kabootar

Laal Kabootar showed a remarkable consistency with only a 6% fall from the previous weekend that is 28 lacs from 30 lacs. The bad part for the film is that it could only do well on lower levels as the collections never showed a huge jump. This film owes its business to there being less competition, good amount of shows, and positive word of mouth.

Here is the complete breakdown of numbers:

Week 1: 1.29 Crores

Week 2: 82 lacs

Third Weekend: 30 lacs

Fourth Weekend: 28 lacs.

Total: 2.69 crores

Captain Marvel

The film has maintained good collections in the 2nd weekend i.e. 1.25 crores. The fall is little over 55% which is not bad considering the film has released after 4 weeks of its worldwide premiere. Being the last movie to come before the final installment of the global phenomenon Avengers saga, Avengers: Endgame, hits the screen, it had already carried a good hype. The movie’s business worldwide has also helped its cause in business in Pakistan.

The breakdown of numbers is as follows:

Week 1: 2.5 crores

Week 2: 1.25 crores.

Total: 3.75 crores

A final word

The numbers indicate that the down period for the cinemas still continues on. With Avengers: Endgame just ten days away of the release, the cinema owners have their eyes on the it to bring in numbers that the other local releases have failed to bring in. The end of the Bollywood ban is still nowhere in sight. And with Ramazan approaching, it looks like there is not going to be any other release that will share Avengers: Endgame‘s burden of bringing in the numbers at the box office until the three big Eid releases – The Legend of Maula Jutt, Challawa, and Wrong No. 2 hit the screens.

These box office numbers are given by an independent box office tracking site Entertainment Pakistan.

From the small screen to the silver screen: The journey of Zara Noor Abbas

$

Zara Noor Abbas is a name most people are familiar with. Daughter of the versatile, Asma Abbas, niece of the magnificent, Bushra Ansari, and now also the wife of Asad Siddiqui, – nephew of the phenomenal Adnan Siddiqui – it won’t be wrong to say that Zara was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. While people may call her story just another case of nepotism, it was Zara’s sheer talent that has made her into the star that she is today.

Zara’s early journey in television

According to our sources, Zara was fond of acting and dancing since her early years and participated actively in numerous plays throughout her school and college life. Further venturing into live theatre, she was an active performer in many plays and dance competitions. Making her debut with Dharkan, Zara stepped into the television industry playing the lead Areen but failed to make a mark despite her fabulous acting.

What gave Zara the recognition that she deserved was her role in Khamoshi. Playing one of the leads alongside Iqra Aziz, Bilal Khan, and Affan Waheed, Zara was highly appreciated for her acting skills and her chemistry with Bilal Khan was much praised. This serial proved to be a breakthrough for Zara and it also became one of the most watched serials of the year 2017.

It then became a staircase to Zara’s stardom, with each serial that she signed up for. After Khamoshi, Zara starred in Hum TV’s Lamhay, which garnered her critical acclaim. Nowadays,  Zara is playing the lead role in Geo’s Qaid in which she essays the role of a teacher. In her next offering, Deewar E Shab, Zara will be seen alongside her mother and maternal aunt, who will interestingly be switching their real life roles as Asma Abbas will play Zara’s aunt while Bushra Ansari would play her mother.  Expanding her versatility, Zara would be portraying the role of a courtesan for the first time in her career.

The career shift towards films

Alongside television, Zara has ventured into films as she is all set to make her debut with not only one but two films releasing this year. She will be seen in Parey Hut Love alongside some of the industry’s biggest names including Maya Ali, Sheheryar Munawar, Mahira Khan, Ahmed Ali Butt and many more.

On the other hand, Zara will be seen in Wajahat Rauf’s Chhalawa alongside her husband Asad Siddiqui, Mehwish Hayat and Azfar Rehman. While Zara has mostly played serious roles in her drama serials, these two movies show the quirky side of the actress that we have yet to witness. While the recent trailer and BTS of Chhalawa look promising, all four of the lead avatars including Zara, caught our attention. It won’t be wrong to say that both these movies are much anticipated after the recent disasters that have hit our cinemas, as they would serve as a breath of fresh air.

While Zara is a newbie in the industry, the way she handles criticism and negative comments is another personality trait that this girl has which we are proud of. Having had her share of haters, the way she reacts to those comments is proof of how strong of a person she is, and that there is nothing that can break this girl’s spirits. All our wishes are with this rising star and we cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us.

Pakistani movies need to move on from action, romance, and comedy genres

$
0
0

Ever since its inception, Pakistani cinema has mostly been known for movies in the action, romance, and comedy genre. Be it classics like Maula Jutt and Churiyan, or post-revival films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani to the very recent release SherDil, our movies are packed with either action, romance, or humor. The quality of movies made in these genres may vary, but the base remains the same. And as the overall quality of our films increase by leaps and bounds with time, the genres have remained blandly unchanged. Honestly, it is high time our producers and directors do something about it.

Variety is the flavor of life.

Our industry has some of the greatest writers and actors, but what we need to realize is that no matter how good a movie’s story line, direction or cast is, if the movies being made consistently belong to only one genre, the audience is bound to lose their interest. Too much of anything is never a good sign.

Compared to the film industry, Pakistan’s television industry has immensely improved not only due to the quality, but due to the versatility in content that it produces. The content being aired nowadays belongs to various genres from pure romance to comedy, even playing with unconventional genres such from horror and suspense. With dramas like Do Bol, Bandish, Inkaar, Cheekh, Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Romeo Weds Heer, all being aired in one week, the TV audience has a versatile content to choose from.

Pakistani cinema needs to target the youngsters

Yes, it is true that our film industry has recently started venturing into animation, and the success of movies like Donkey King, 3 Bahadur, Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor prove that the venture has been very successful, we cannot deny that it is not enough for today’s audience, specifically the youngsters. A large part of our audience consists of youngsters, and it’s about time we create content that targets that demographic.

The fact that it took release of Hollywood movies like Captain Marvel to increase the footfalls in the cinema after the Bollywood ban, means that our audience craves a well-made PG-13 movie. The insane amount of pre-bookings for Avengers: Endgame only give more evidence to this statement. Hollywood movies continue to bring in more audience to the cinema than most of our local Pakistani releases all because they target demographic largely ignored by the Pakistani movie makers.

Experimentation in genres is a must

When was the last time we watched a well-made Pakistani horror film? A sci-fi? A fantasy? A crime? Mystery? Thriller? While there are some movies that do tick these genres, none of them have made any impact. Consequently, there are so many other genres that I can list here but no movies have been made that fall in those genres.

The kind of critical and commercial success that movies like Laal Kabootar and Cake have garnered, both movies which went against the conventional rom-com, action genre movies, means that audience is ready for good content in different genres. The conventional massy, festival entertainers might bring in more numbers but it is human nature to become bored of the mundane routine. And watching films revolving around the same kind of story line, with the tried and tested beats, and predictable twists would eventually bore the audience.

Let this be a wake up call to our film producers and writers. If we do want to succeed in the cinema industry internationally, it’s high time that we broaden our horizons and start experimenting with diverse genres more efficiently. It is not enough to just make one off-beat film and take a rest. The movie makers need to learn from the failures and continue making more movies instead of falling back to safe formulas.

We have some of the most talented actors in the world, all we need is to utilize them as per their potential. Imagine Fawad Khan in a period drama, or Hamza Ali Abbasi in a sci-fi mystery; or Mahira Khan and Maya Ali teaming up to take the bad guys town total Charlie’s Angels style. The possibilities are endless; all the movie makers need to do is to take them.

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi shedding light on marital rape has people divided

$

0

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi is a drama that almost everyone has seen and even if they haven’t, they’re most likely familiar with the one of its main characters – Bhola.

Bhola and Noori, played by the terrific Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz respectively, are one of the on-screen pairings reigning over our television screens as of late. The way the characters haven been written and specially, how wonderfully they have been portrayed by the actors, are the major reasons why the story of Bhola and Noori has become a topic of conversation in many drawing rooms across the country.

The most recent conversation that the drama has kick started is on the topic of marital rape.

How did it come to this?

The drama had worked on establishing the relationship of Bhola, a mentally challenged man with all the actions of a 8 year old boy, and Noori, a girl belonging to the lower social class who struggles to break free from those shackles, from the very beginning. Their relationship was based on friendship and innocence and the drama had treated it with such care and tenderness that much of the audience became their fan and started rooting for their happy ending.

However, recently in the drama, the innocent friendship and relationship between the two characters took a dark turn when Bhola, influenced by his friends and a certain medicine given to him by his uncle, ended up raping Noori. Although no explicit details were shown but such is the brilliance of director Kashif Nisar and writer Faiza Iftikhar, that everything about the ordeal was clearly shown onscreen without divulging in the disturbing details. Noori’s bruised body, the destruction in the room, Bhola waking up with a chunk of Noori’s hair in his hands – all of it had shown a pretty clear picture of yet another tragedy that had befallen Noori. The episode, which aired a few weeks back, had sparked some controversy over the issue and started a lot of discussion on the issue. And as of yesterday Iqra Aziz took to her instagram and made a post addressing her issue and her performace.

What the actors have to say.

Iqra talked about marital abuse being one of the most pressing issues today and said that she has tried to highlight it through Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. In her post she talked about the mental, emotional, and physical abuse women suffer after marriage as they constantly fight for consent. Iqra wrote, “we think of marriage as a binding contract to anything and everything, but marriage is based on trust and love and consent. Consent to live, to breathe, to be able to say no.” It is a sentiment that we agree with.

Imran Ashraf a.k.a Bhola, then commented under the post in his character’s defense. He talked about Bhola’s mental condition, his uncle’s medicine and friend’s influence to be the reasons for his behavior. The actor did, however, acknowledge the importance of doing a play on marital rape whereupon he also praised Iqra’s acting and supported her in raising voice on this important issue.

Another comment that sparked interest was Yasir Hussain’s reply to Imran’s comment. Yasir said that Bhola’s condition or reasons do not matter. Rather the fact that an innocent woman got raped. He further said that marriages do not mean buying a woman and that rape is rape no matter who does it.

Why this topic is so important.

Although the comments on Iqra’s post have been disabled but how Imran and Yasir reacted to the post says enough about how the society at large deals with the topic. It was good to see all three actors remain cordial with each other, and have a respectful exchange of ideas about the topic. But it also goes on to largely point out how our society is so divided about the topic of marital rape.

We are, of course, in no way blaming any actor or taking any side. But how Imran reacted to the issue, which was valid as Bhola is also a victim here, is how the society at large reacts to such situations. We have somehow mastered the art of making excuses and giving defensive explanations. Excuses and explanations which may be valid but they do not take away the from the hurt and suffering of those who have to suffer the consequences of those actions.

Regardless of Bhola’s condition, Noori is the one who has to live in the constant fear and suffocation. As it is being shown in the drama, Noori is afraid of even being in the same room as Bhola. The drama makes sure to repeatedly show that Noori is suffering because her consent is neither being asked nor regarded as being vital. It shows the hidden truth of marriages in our society where so many women have no option but to be silent about their sufferings because no one supports or encourages them to know their rights.

This is a sensitive topic. Even Iqra has changed her original caption and taken out any mention of marital abuse from it. The society at large still isn’t ready to talk about these things openly. The brilliance of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi lies in the way how Bhola and Noori are both victims of their situations. But while the Bholas can get away with explanations like harmful medicines and mental conditions, it is the Nooris of the world who need to be given voices to talk about sufferings. Ranjha Ranjha Kardi is a step in that direction.

What are your thoughts on the exchange?

Chhalawa’s trailer embodies the perfect ‘Meethi Eid’ recipe and we are here for it

Wajahat Rauf, the man behind the Karachi Se Lahore series, has kept us waiting for his third cinematic outing for a while now and just yesterday, he dropped the much-awaited trailer of his upcoming film, Chhalawa.

Taking a detour from his favorite ‘Road trip comedy’ genre, the director, this time, has opted for another much-loved genre in the subcontinent cinema i.e the big fat family wedding (we don’t exactly know what the specific term for it is) and there could have been no better release slot for a sweet film like this than the Meethi Eid itself.

The good, the bad and some more good

The trailer features some well-known stars of the entertainment industry namely Mehwish Hayat, Azfar Rehman, Zara Noor Abbas, Asad Siddiqui, Mehmood Aslam, Adnan Shah Tipu, Aashir Wajahat and Mohsin Ejaz.

As mentioned earlier, the film is a  rom-com culminating in and across the backdrop of a Punjabi family wedding. It has music, dance, drama, romance and even a pinch of action, thus ticking all the boxes of a family entertainer.

While the story-line may not be very original in its basic template, it’s the execution and characters of the film that will serve as the backbone of the film and make it unique.

Chhalawa appears to be pretty successful in having eccentric yet relatable characters if the trailer is keenly observed. While the teaser may be a let down for looking like a cousin to Punjab Nahi Jaungi, the seemingly ‘character-driven’ nature of the film is where its strength resides.

From Mehwish’s fiery and headstrong character – Zoya, to the talented Zara Noor’s “Galaxy Lollywood-ish” avatar, (Yes!The trailer actually refers to Galaxy Lollywood at one point) and Mehmud Aslam’s patriarchal but softer on the inside presence to the comic timings of its leading men, Chhalawa seems to have well-written characters.

The feel-good nature of the film is cemented further by its brilliant music, choreography, and cinematography. The dance moves are trendy and fun and the scale of the film is expansive and fresh.

The music, being upbeat and trendy, covers pretty much all the moods (from romantic ballad to dance numbers and a heartbreak song). It gives a major boost to the film and is definitely going to be chartbuster as well as a Shadi/Mehndi favorite for the times to come.

A few words on the characters

A special mention should be given to the debutant Zara who excels in whichever scene she appears. Her dialogue delivery and dance moves are all on the mark. From the trailer, she looks like the next big thing for the local silver screens and we hope to see more of her on the silver screen.

As for Mehwish, the lady never disappoints. She owns every frame she appears in and rather overshadows her co-stars (even her male counterparts). Her character seems to have several layers to it and grows as the trailer furthers. Azfar Rehman and Asad Siddiqui (who, although doesn’t appear much for it’s a trailer) also have their own grounds to hold and are pretty much successful in that.

Despite its rather predictable story, it seems the couples (Mehwish-Azfar and Zara-Asad) will be successful in grabbing our attention this Eid because the chemistry amongst them is enthralling. With a better cut trailer and ingredients that attract our family audiences, Chhalawa will remain the first choice of viewers on Eid.

The film could just be the best work of Wajahat Rauf to date. To find that out for sure, we will have to wait until Eid, when the film comes out. But for now, the trailer has made us pretty much sure of it.

‘Bandish’ and ‘Bulbulay’ are returning with their second seasons

Finally heading in the right direction, the Pakistani television and film industry is progressing by leaps and bounds. While our content keeps improving with the passage of time, it is the television industry that has gained the most popularity, even across the border. Our newest stories are being liked because of the fresh subjects that our television industry has been producing content about.

Bandish, Bulbulay coming back for season 2

One recent venture was the drama Bandish under the banner of Big Bang Production. Revolving around the black magic taboo, the story was so well portrayed that the serial gained popularity in a matter of days. It became the talk of the town and was impatiently awaited by the audience to be aired every week. While its last episode yesterday marked the serial’s ending, it gave the audience immense pleasure to find out that its sequel is already in the making. Yes, you heard that right!

Bandish is coming back with a sequel very soon because of the hype the serial gained over the past few months. We don’t yet know if the sequel would have a new story and cast or will be a continuation of the original one. But one thing we do know is that whatever the case might be, it will still be well received for the distinctive genre that it portrays.

Bulbulay

Another popular serial Bulbulay, aired on ARY Digital, has its sequel in the making. While initially, this comedy serial was one of the most popular serials among the audiences of all ages, it became a drag because of its repeated dialogues and people got weary of it. Let’s hope that the sequel brings in some new ideas and isn’t a reflection of the original one. Because if it is, I personally hope it never airs!

Having said that, the comedy drama will be returning on Eid. According to the official press release received by us, “the shooting for the exciting new season is taking place in Karachi, as the cast focuses on creating content that will give the audience a chance to enjoy lighthearted comedy and help them relax from their daily routines.

Talking about this further the starlet of the show, Ayesha Omar said: “I am very excited that Bulbulay is coming back together again on ARY. The entire cast has been working vigorously on it to make this an absolute treat for our audience.”

It was also reported that the drama will air on BOL instead of ARY. However, according to the latest reports, the drama will return on ARY, its original home. We can’t wait to see what the drama has in store for us, this coming Eid.

Following Eman Suleman; Meesha, Generation and Saima Bargfrede reject their LSA nominations

The nominations for this year’s LUX Style Awards were announced at the end of March and there were of course, a few too many ‘snubs’ which have become a tradition of sorts for LSA. Mohsin Abbas Haider, who has been nominated in the ‘Best Singer’ category took to his social media and called out the LSAs for blatantly ignoring his play Meri Guriya in all the drama related categories. Similarly, Abdullah Seja, head honcho of iDream Entertainment, also voiced out his disappointment. Having produced dramas like Koi Chand Rakh, Haiwan, and Meri Beti, Abdullah used Facebook to talk about the way all the dramas were ignored in the nominations.

Trouble for Teefa

The film categories weren’t lacking any drama either. Ahsan Rahim, director of Teefa in Trouble, made a post on his twitter account and spoke about how the film’s music was completely ignored by the jury.

Which brings us to Eman Suleman. The model/actress, who has been nominated as the ‘Best Emerging Talent’ in the Fashion category, put out a video on her social media where she expressed her discomfort in sharing her nomination with someone who has been accused of sexual harassment.

Eman didn’t say any names but it isn’t wrong to assume that she was talking about the Ali Zafar – Meesha Shafi controversy. She thanked the LSAs for the nomination but said that she feels, “no joy” in sharing the accolade with an “alleged harasser.” In all the reactions that have followed the nominations, Eman is the only person who has chosen to give up her nomination while most of the other people are merely seen expressing disappointment because they didn’t get nominated.

Meesha, Generation and Saima Bargfrede reject their LSA 2019 nominations

Even more recently, following Eman Suleman’s suit, Meesha Shafi, Generation and the renowned designer Saima Bargfrede rejected their LSA nominations.

Meesha Shafi took her to twitter and shared the following, yesterday:

In her tweet today, Shafi wrote that “I want to thank Eman Suleman. What she, Generation and Saima Bargfrede, have said and done is what I consider my award.”

She further added, “In a perfect world, I would love to see women retain their space in the industry while being safe, so that the cost of speaking up is minimized, or even done away with altogether. With brave women like these, I feel optimistic about getting there one day.”

Similarly, the clothing brand, Generation, and designer, Saima Bargfrede, followed suit by refusing to attend the LSA and consequently, rejected their nominations.

The press release which was shared on Generation’s social media accounts said that the brand and Saima Bargfrede, the designer, had “been nominated for the awards of Achievement in Fashion Design (pret) and Best Hair and Makeup Artist respectively at this year’s Lux Style Awards”. It further said that the “two entities have decided to follow in Best Emerging Talent nominee Eman Suleman’s footsteps and not attend this year’s ceremony. The two brands stand with women who face and fight toxic misogyny, sexism and sexual harassment in multiple ways in pursuance of their dreams and indeed in their daily lives.”

What do you have to say about the situation? Let us know in the comments.

The teaser of ‘Baaji’ is a celebration of Lollywood and this is HOT STUFF!

Meera’s comeback film Baaji has been on my radar for quite some time. Why do you ask? Well, the film stars Meera in the role of a fading actress set against the backdrop of a declining old school film industry and the emergence of a new age Pakistani cinema, add to that the phenomenally talented Saqib Malik on the director’s seat and an interesting ensemble cast featuring a mix of the old and new – needless to say the expectations were high!

Baaji‘s first look

The first teaser dropped today and quite honestly Saqib has packed a solid punch with this first look into the glamorous world of Baaji. The 80-second teaser gives us a glimpse of what to expect from this crazy rollercoaster ride where Meera, without a doubt, is shining in the titular role of Baaji- a superstar whose time is running out, Amna Ilyas plays an ambitious girl with big dreams, Osman Khalid Butt a director with a plan, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Ali Kazmi who both seem to have an important part to play, as well as a bunch of veteran actors Nishoo Jee, Nayyar Ejaz and Irfan Khoosat.

While most actors seem well-suited to the characters,  I do feel that role being assigned to Osman Khalid Butt would have been a better fit for a somewhat more senior actor as the character seems to be that of a mature director and Osman who though is a great actor seems a bit of a misfit here. But I may be proven wrong when the film comes out so better wait and watch to see what tricks Saqib Malik has up his sleeves.

Going by the film’s setting Lollywood was bound to be a huge part of the film and the teaser makes it clear that the film will be an ode to Lollywood and celebrate the industry. The teaser makes use of all the filmy tropes and the addition of the classic Babra Sharif song ‘Yeh Aaj Mujh Ko Kiya’ in the background further accentuates this point. Oh and the last bit of the trailer where Amna addresses Meera as Baaji, the drama that follows and Meera utters her dialogue, it can not get any more Lollywood-y than this

To sum it up the thriller has all the makings of a commercially successful and critically acclaimed film as the characters all seem to be well-etched, the direction on point, the music promising and on the whole, the film is one to watch out for.

If you are an ‘Avengers’ fan, should you watch it in 2D or 3D?

By Shaan Lashari*

One of the biggest superhero movies in the history of super-hero movies – Avengers: Endgame – is coming out in 2 days, on the 26th of April 2019, in Pakistan. It is 3 hours and 2 minutes long and the fans, it looks like, can’t wait to watch every minute of it. Opening weekend tickets at big international cinema chains like AMC and ODEON have already been sold out. Shows are being scheduled as early as 6:15 AM on the opening weekend to cater to the insane demand for the film. But how do we want to watch this movie event of the century? Is it a 3D watch or a 2D watch? I mean you wouldn’t want to make a mistake there if you’re an Avengers fan, now would you?

So should you watch it in 2D or 3D?

Here are some facts:

I’m going to get a little technical here so bear with me. In cinemas, the unit in which we measure the light bouncing off the screen into our eyes is called FootLambert (FLt). A normal 2D movie in a good cinema with a good projector runs on around 11 FLt. A 3D movie in the same cinema runs on around 4 FLt. This means that you’re watching the movie at 40% brightness only which is less than half the brightness the film was actually produced in.

Imagine sitting in your lounge before you put on a movie and reducing the LED’s brightness to 40% before you start watching it. The brightness in a 3D movie reduces because the light is eaten up by 2 lenses that create the 3D effect. One is right in front of the projector and the other lens is the one you wear in the form of 3D glasses. Have you noticed the screen seems brighter when you take off your 3D glasses? That is exactly what I am talking about and honestly, I wouldn’t want to do that, especially with the Avengers: Endgame.

Here’s why you should watch it in 2D

Has it ever happened to you that you start feeling a strain on your eyes during a 3D movie and sometimes a mild headache too? If yes, then let me enlighten you on why this happens. In a 3D movie, the screen has 2 images being displayed on the screen. One image is for your left eye and the other is for your right eye. In Pakistan, almost all the cinemas calibrate these left-right images manually and it is very difficult to overlap them 100% manually.

Now if the two images are not exactly overlapping on the screen, your brain receives two images, one from each eye. Now your brain does not know which image to focus on because it is not used to receiving two different images from your two eyes. So it keeps zooming in and zooming out of the left and right eye images to find a point where both are in focus (which is not possible) and that causes the eye strain or the headache we just talked about. It’s like one person is talking in your right ear while another is talking in your left ear and you can’t concentrate on either of the two conversations. Therefore, the 3D eye strain is another risk, at least, I for one, wouldn’t be taking with my Avengers: Endgame experience.

Choose your Avengers watching format wisely because you’re only going to watch it for the first time once.

‘Sadkay in kay fashion par’ says Miss Lollywood

Hello, my lovely readers!

I know aap sab mera kaafi wait kar rahay thay. I missed you jaans too, bohat socha kis baat par article likhoon, but there was nothing happening in the industry. Khair now that I have written this article and am about to publish this, there is this whole Lux Style Awards ka tamasha happening. I have so much to say on this, but let’s wait for all the nominees to withdraw aur phir baat kartain hain, lol

Khair anyhow, last week I had the privilege of attending the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week (Lahore) and the Hum Showcase (Karachi). Free ke passes jo milay thay tau jana tau must tha. Anyway, as usual, the three-day glamorous extravaganza had some hits and obviously, some misses and aaj I take this opportunity, as the ultimate fashion police, and give my opinion on the looks:

PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week

Hania Amir

So Nomi darling presented the sportswear collection and kaafi theek thaak; I actually quite liked the contemporary touch to it. Theme bhi refreshing tha; complete with vibrant colors and irresistible, shirtless hot men walking the ramp, one after the other. While I was busy checking them out, Hania Amir suddenly appeared out of nowhere as the show stopper and honestly, ouch! My eyes couldn’t recover from the disaster that she was. Mere regular workout clothes are far better than what she wore, kasam say!

Zara Noor Abbas

Zara Noor Abbas, who usually toh turns up looking absolutely flawless but this time was a sheer disappointment. Haye Allah, what was she even thinking? The pink didn’t do anything to accentuate her good looks, plus the outfit didn’t compliment her figure at all. She could have gone a little easy on the accessories, given the bright color of her outfit lekin chalo marzi hai! Jaani next time when you are show-stopping you come to me, okay?

Shehreyar Munawar

Kasam se, I can’t describe the moment when Shehreyar took the stage. I was seeing him live for the first time. Imagine my haalat, aur tau aur zalim ne aik dafa bhi meri taraf nahi dekha. Anyway, it’s no use crying over spilt milk. Talking of milk, why was Sherry dressed in complete white? Na tou 23 March thi, na hee 14 August. Khair, no offense but this one was just too hard to like.

Mawra Hocane

Mawra is a stunning girl, mujhay toh pasand hay bhai, log jo marzi kahain. But this time she didn’t quite get it right. While her makeup and hairdo were on point, Hocane’s outfit wasn’t that great. The saree was strictly average but the way it was draped made it a miss for me.

HUM Showcase

Anyway moving on, uff Galaxy walay kitni zimedariyan daal detay hai mujh pe. One can’t say no to someone who has given you a break, so I had to fly to Karachi to attend the Hum Showcase. Especially when the hospitality is complementary, mujhe tau jana hi tha.

First things first, the high octane fashion event looked more of a film promotions adda where all the celebrity showstoppers somehow or the other, promoted their films. Pehle tau we saw the Heer Man Ja pair; Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman. It felt as if Ali was badly in need of a glucose drip as his energy level was super low when he walked in. Then we witnessed Neelam Munner and Sami Khan for Wrong No 2.

Moving on, it’s been a month since Laal Kabootar released but looks like, the lukewarm response to the film has made AAA (bohat lamba naam hai) and Mansha Pasha to promote the film at every possible occasion (since it’s still showing in cinemas, thanks to the sudden exit of Bollywood films). But the winner amongst them was Wajahat Rauf who attended the show biwi, bachay and of course the star cast samait. Han bhai, HUM Films ki product hai tau HUM showcase per promotion tau banti hai. Ab chalain, fashion misses ki bat karte hain:

Feroze Khan

I personally feel that after a couple of successful projects, kamyabi thori sar par charh gaye hai Feroze kay.  He thinks whatever he does is fine… matlab kuch bhi. His outfit reminded me of my mother’s hand made tea cosy set that used to have such colors and patterns. For me honestly, the outfit did nothing for him.

Faryal Mehmood

Amidst all this shor sharaba, I really loved Rizwan Beyg’s collections but Faryal’s strapless outfit and revealing legs didn’t quite make sense to me. Why is Faryal trying so hard to be our local Bipasha Basu? Her walk was too fast and for a moment mujhe tou laga she was going to pull a Kangana Ranaut from Fashion. My advice is: expose where it is required. Simple!

Sarah Khan

I hate to say this, as I love Sarah, but her dress made her look more like a Chinese doll. I am not a fan of such prints on a dress for they always remind me of the curtains in my house. Mere ghar kay parday is se behtar hee hain wese, apas ki baat hai. Quite frankly, her outfit had a lot of unnecessary material on it which wasn’t exactly flattering.

Sarah Khan (left)

A final word

A film without a good script is soul-less, therefore, a celebrity showstopper with a mediocre outfit is ____ (samaj tau gaye ho gay ap). My humble advice to all the designers, besides focusing on their entire collections, is to kindly pay a little more attention to the show stoppers kay kapre. At the end of the day, it’s your collection bhai and no one else’s that they represent.

Until next time it’s a bye-bye from your all-time favorite judgment ki rani – Miss Lollywood.

The last eight episodes of ‘Do Bol’ to come out within a week

By this time, we all know about the ARY Digital production Do Bol starring Hira Mani and Affan Waheed. The drama which started airing last month has garnered much critical acclaim and has been loved by the audiences through and through. With their drama TRPs soaring, ARY had introduced the concept of double episodes with its serials. Following a recent drama, Kaisa Hai Naseeban ending, Do Bol was given its slot, giving it more running airtime. With this advancement, fans had the pleasure of enjoying the show for two days back to back.

Now, with the storyline progressing and the audiences binge-watching the show, ARY has decided to bring in more, much to the viewers’ delight.

What Jerjees Seja himself has to say about this

Speaking to Galaxy Lollywood, Jerjees Seja (CEO of ARY Digital) told us the reason behind this progression.

“The show has gained immense success in just a short span of time because of which we decided to air it twice a week. Now, with Ramazan approaching in just two weeks time, Do Bol will be airing its last 4 double episodes the coming week thereby, wrapping it up before Ramazan. The reason being less viewership of dramas in Ramazan mainly because of Ramazan transmissions and game shows like Jeeto Pakistan,” said Mr. Seja.

A final word

I, as a viewer of the drama itself, think this is a great decision.

As the show is not only aired on TV but also makes its way on the official youtube channel of ARY, people all over the world get to watch it as per their convenience.

Also, most of our Pakistani dramas mostly stretch for 20+ episodes which means 20 weeks, but if the story is intriguing, viewers want more episodes per week and it looks like ARY is willing to give them what they want and honestly, we are not complaining.

With ARY introducing the concept of double episodes, the delight of watching a drama has increased tenfolds, which I am sure will be favorable for Do Bol.

Here is everything that has happened following the Ali Zafar-LSA controversy

The nominations for this year’s LUX Style Awards were announced at the end of March and there were, of course, a few too many ‘snubs’ which have become a tradition of sorts for LSA. Most prominently, Ali Zafar was nominated for best actor, best film (producer for Teefa in Trouble) while his film Teefa was nominated in a number of other categories as well. Now, this did not sit well with Eman Suleman and trouble for Teefa started when she spoke out against his nomination and refused to share the platform with him. Here is everything that went down afterwards:

Trouble for Teefa

Here is a list of everyone who withdrew their nomination from the LSAs, following the Ali Zafar controversy:

Eman Suleman

Almost a month back – on March 30, to be precise – Eman Suleman, the model/actress, who was nominated as the ‘Best Emerging Talent’ in the Fashion category, put out a video on her social media where she expressed her discomfort in sharing her nomination with someone who has been accused of sexual harassment. Eman didn’t say any names but it isn’t wrong to assume that she was talking about the Ali Zafar – Meesha Shafi controversy. In all the reactions that followed the nominations, Eman was the only person who chose to give up her nomination, for the longest time. However, recently, a number of nominees/celebrities/brands have chosen to follow Eman’s suit, by rejecting their nominations.

Saima Bargfrede and Generation

The renowned clothing brand, Generation, and designer, Saima Bargfrede, followed Eman’s suit by refusing to attend the LSA and consequently, rejected their nominations, on the 22nd of April.

Meesha Shafi

Meesha Shafi, too, took to her twitter and shared the following, 23rd of April:

In her tweet, Shafi wrote that “I want to thank Eman Suleman. What she, Generation and Saima Bargfrede, have said and done is what I consider my award.”

 Sketches

On 23rd of April, Sketches – a Sufi folk rock band from Jamshoro, Sindh – issued the following statement. The band was nominated in four categories and they rejected all four of them.

Rubab Ali and Fatima Nasir

On 24th of April, Pakistani model Rubab Ali took to her Instagram to reject her LSA nomination for ‘Model of the year’.

While Fatima Nasir, who was nominated for the best hair and makeup artist, followed the suit.

Moving on, here is a list of everyone who chimed in with their two cents on the said issue:

Maheen Khan, Zara Peerzada, Jami, Omayr Waqar, and Sarmad Khoosat

The five aforementioned names spoke out against the alleged harasser’s nomination. Here is what they had to say:

Starting with Maheen Khan, the Pakistani fashion and costume designer spoke out yesterday in support of Meesha Shafi and others who have rejected their LSA nominations.

Following Maheen, our favorite Jami, simply ended the conversation by calling the LSAs ‘trash’ and well, that’s that.

Zara Peerzada, the Pakistani model, also called out the fashion industry for keeping their mouths shut, in a morally critical situation, like this one.

Moving on, Omayr Waqar, however, was the sassiest of them all. Here is how he chose to record his protest:

He also shared the following video on his Insta story and honestly, we cannot stop laughing.

Last but not the least, Sarmad Khoosat also chimed in with his appreciation for strong women like Meesha and everyone who have stood their ground, through this.

Frieha Altaf

Amidst all the bedlam, Frieha Altaf deserves a separate heading of her own for her statement was a little too confusing. While she removes herself from the situation by saying that she has nothing to do with the nominations, she also says that the LSAs are close to her heart and that she will uphold all the values that also somehow include respecting the #MeToo movement.

Munib Nawaz, Shamoon Abbasi, Sadaf Kanwal, Iman Ali, and Ahmed Ali Butt

On the other hand, those who made a decision to be for-LSA had the following to say:

Starting with Munib Nawaz, the designer employed the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ rhetoric, here is what he said:

Instagram Photo

Sadaf Kanwal, shared the following on her story:

Moving on, Shamoon Abbasi outrightly rejected everything Meesha and other women have said about the alleged harasser, in the most blatant way possible:

Iman Ali also took to her Instagram to share her ‘take’ on the issue. She asked us not to judge anyone too quickly.

Instagram Photo

There was also a small argument that ensued under Iman’s post, we’ve got screenshots for you:

Last but not least, Ahmed Ali Butt is of the view that if someone wants to record their protest, they can definitely do it but they shouldn’t degrade an award in the process.

Instagram Photo

To wrap it all up, here is the official statement from the LSAs:

What do you think of the whole controversy? Please let us know in the comments.
